We need to do this to ensure the safety of both students as well as other road users,” he said after chairing the 61st annual general meeting of the MKJR here.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Loke said studies have shown that reducing the speed limit to 30km per hour can greatly help reduce fatalities as well as serious injuries to road users.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>He said efforts should be made to put up signage, school crossings, speed breakers, road dividers and other safety equipment in school zones to ensure success. Wardens carrying stop signs will also be engaged.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Loke said the Public Works Department and local councils have been informed to gazette the new speed limit laws.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>“I hope that action is taken quickly to gazette them,” he said.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Asked what triggered the move to reduce the speed limit in school zones, Loke said this was already a norm in many countries.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>“This is the international standard. Kesesakan Lalu Lintas, yang dipengerusikan oleh Timbalan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, pada dasarnya bersetuju untuk mengurangkan had laju dalam langkah mengurangkan kematian dan kecederaan serius akibat kemalangan jalan raya.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>\"Majlis Keselamatan Jalan Raya (MKJR) akan melaksanakan program ini di sekolah terpilih tahun ini. Ini perlu kita lakukan bagi memastikan keselamatan kedua-dua pelajar serta pengguna jalan raya yang lain,\" katanya selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat agung tahunan MKJR kali ke-61 di sini.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Loke berkata kajian telah menunjukkan bahawa mengurangkan had laju kepada 30km sejam dapat membantu mengurangkan kematian serta kecederaan serius kepada pengguna jalan raya.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Beliau berkata usaha perlu dilakukan untuk meletakkan papan tanda, lintasan sekolah, pemutus laju, pembahagi jalan dan peralatan keselamatan lain di zon sekolah bagi memastikan kejayaan. Warden yang membawa tanda berhenti juga akan terlibat.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Loke berkata Jabatan Kerja Raya dan majlis tempatan telah dimaklumkan untuk mewartakan undang-undang had laju baharu.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>“Saya harap tindakan diambil segera untuk mewartakan mereka,” katanya.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Ditanya apa yang mencetuskan langkah mengurangkan had laju di zon sekolah, Loke berkata ini sudah menjadi kebiasaan di banyak negara.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>\"Ini adalah piawaian antarabangsa.
