About Us
Established in 1954, Majlis Keselamatan Jalan Raya Malaysia (MKJR) stands as the nation’s leading coordinating body and advisory council dedicated to enhancing road safety. For over six decades, MKJR has championed efforts to protect lives and prevent injuries on Malaysian roads.
Our Vision is clear: To make Malaysia a country with zero road traffic fatalities
Achieving this requires a fundamental shift in perspective. MKJR is committed to leading Malaysia’s adoption of the Safe System Approach, a globally recognised framework that moves beyond solely focusing on road user behaviour to creating a transport system designed to anticipate human error and protect human life. (Learn more about Our Approach: The Safe System.)
Guided by this approach, Our Mission is to lead and coordinate national efforts towards eliminating road traffic fatalities and serious injuries. We strive to achieve this by fostering a culture of shared responsibility among all stakeholders – from government agencies and industry players to individual road users – and promoting holistic improvements across the entire road transport system. As the national convenor and advisor to the Minister of Transport on road safety matters, MKJR focuses on stimulating action in critical areas, including advocating for safer infrastructure design, promoting compliance with traffic laws, disseminating evidence-based safety information, and strengthening the capacity of state-level Road Safety Councils. MKJR operates under the chairmanship of the Minister of Transport. We bring together representatives from key government bodies and non-governmental organisations, working collaboratively to drive the national road safety agenda forward. We are committed to transparency in our operations and governance. (Meet Our Leadership & Team and see our Member Organisations and Financial Reports.)
